Linda Vista loses long-time residents and community volunteers
It is with great sadness that we note the recent passing of John & Carol McAllister, both were wonderful inspirations to the community. In addition to being Linda Vista residents for decades, John and Carol were parishioners at The Imaculatta Parish and volunteered with the library, town council and numerous local organizations and events. John, pictured to the right with San Diego Councilwoman Lorie Zapf, was recognized last June for his service to the community. Please see the news article on John's life in the San Diego Union-Tribune by David Ogul, Caltrans worker’s innovations eased county traffic.
Sevices for Carol were held November 25th and services for John were held on December 16th. God bless them both and grant them peace.
Union-Tribune article on LVPG meeting: Speed limit reduction coming to Morena Blvd.
By Nathan Max, San Diego Union-Tribune
Tuesday, November 29, 2011
LINDA VISTA — Motorists who use a nearly 1-mile stretch of Morena Boulevard will have to hit their brakes starting early next year.
The city plans to lower the speed limit on the oft-used road from 35 to 30 mph between West Morena Boulevard South and West Morena Boulevard North. The changes will be completed by late January to early February, according to Bill Harris, spokesman for the city’s Transportation and Storm Water Department.
The Linda Vista Planning Group, a neighborhood advisory board, unanimously supported the change at its monthly meeting Monday night with an 11-0 vote.
The stretch of street in question is a narrow and winding road that alternates between two and four lanes and has numerous businesses on each side.
“My immediate gut (reaction) as a motorist was not to adjust it down,” Linda Vista Planning Group Vice Chair Drew Corley said at Monday's meeting. “But the business district is supporting it.”
In other Linda Vista streets news, the planning group will discuss next month whether to request the city turn a stretch of East Hyatt Street, near Gatling Court, into a one-way road due to safety concerns. The board plans to decide on a course of action at its January meeting.
